About Biomass Boilers

Biomass Boilers are a carbon neutral alternative to oil or LPG. You will need a large storage area as they burn low cost wood chips or pellets. Greenfuture Energy can offer the design, supply and installation of Biomass Boilers to both domestic and commercial customers.

Biomass Boilers burn wood pellets, logs or wood chips from sustainable sources to suit all of your heating and hot water needs. A Biomass Boiler is especially effective if you have an older property and you are not connected to the mains gas grid.

Biomass Boilers Incentive (RHI)

Biomass Boilers can also generate an income for you from the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). The income that you can earn generally exceeds the cost of the installation. That means the boiler will pay for itself while you enjoy long-term savings on the cost of fuel and a lovely warm home. Talk to us to find out if you can earn revenue through the RHI scheme & reduce your home’s energy consumption.

How do biomass boilers work?

Biomass boilers work by burning biological matter and outputting the resulting heat for use in heating systems. Wood pellets, chips, logs or other biological materials are fed – automatically, semi-automatically, or by hand – into a combustion chamber where they are ignited. The hot gas and air produced by this process travel through a flue, and are then passed through a heat exchanger, which transfers the heat to the water used in the property’s central heating system. The excess heat is also stored in a thermal tank (also called a buffer vessel).

How do I know my biomass boiler system will qualify for the RHI?

We will only install biomass boiler systems that are eligible for the RHI, whether that is in the domestic or commercial scheme.

Will I need a hot water cylinder for a biomass boiler?

Biomass boilers are designed to operate with a hot water cylinder. If you don’t already have one then we will install one as part of the installation procedure.

How long does a biomass boiler last?

A well-installed and maintained biomass boiler should last for well over 20 years. While you can service it yourself, Biomass Boiler manufacturers usually recommend that your boiler is serviced at least once a year by a Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) certified installer, such as Greenfuture Energy.

How can I make use of the non-domestic renewable heat incentive?

Biomass Boilers are cheaper to run and are ideal for schools, farms and rural businesses.  They can earn a generous income from the government’s Non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)
